Summary of experience

Mr. Hartstein graduated from Columbia Law School in 2015 and began his legal career in New York in the litigation group of a large international law firm, focusing on internal investigations of multinational corporations and financial institutions for potential violations of the U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and securities and banking laws. Mr. Hartstein’s work also included securities litigation, white collar criminal defense, and commercial litigation.

Mr. Hartstein then served as a judicial law clerk for the Chief Judge of the U.S. Court of International Trade, an Article III court located in New York City. After clerking, Mr. Hartstein joined the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of New Mexico as a federal prosecutor. During his time at the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Mr. Hartstein prosecuted a wide range of federal crimes including mail fraud, wire fraud, money laundering, cybercrime, tax evasion, alien smuggling, immigration offenses, narcotics offenses, firearm offenses, and murder-for-hire. Mr. Hartstein served as the COVID Fraud Coordinator, the Environmental Crimes Coordinator, and the Computer Hacking and Intellectual Property Coordinator for the District of New Mexico, as well as the Financial Criminal Enforcement Network liaison for the District. Mr. Hartstein was also designated as an Asset Recovery Unit attorney, engaging in both civil and criminal litigation to forfeit assets and secure restitution for victims of crime. Mr. Hartstein also traveled to Latin America with the Department of Justice’s Overseas Prosecutorial Development, Assistance, and Training program to present in trainings for judges, prosecutors, and law enforcement agents in partner countries such as Colombia and El Salvador.

Mr. Hartstein joined the Conklin firm in 2024.
